Part 376: The Sunday Fast and the Seeds of Prosperity

Sunday was a day of intense penance for Radhika, as she observed a strict 'Nirjala' fast (without water). Despite the physical weakness, her resolve was unshakable. She had to visit four farmers, but reaching their fields was an ordeal in itself. Waiting for an auto-rickshaw often took up to two hours. Sitting by the roadside, she turned her waiting into worship, continuously chanting "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya." When the auto finally arrived, she traveled 12 kilometers to start her work.

Radhika explained the Silk Department’s scheme to the farmers with great clarity. She assured them that their land would remain theirs; they only needed to register it for five years for silk cultivation. She highlighted the benefits: free saplings, fertilizers, pipes, motors, and even a 20x40 feet rearing shed (hall). Furthermore, they would get 100 days of guaranteed work and payment for the silk cocoons produced. Her convincing words sparked hope, and soon, her list of interested farmers grew from 4 to 25. However, she knew the real task had just begun—collecting documents like land maps and records would take days of hard labor.

रविवार का दिन राधिका के लिए कठिन परीक्षा का था, क्योंकि उस दिन उसका 'निर्जला' उपवास था। प्यास और थकान के बावजूद, वह अपनी फील्ड ड्यूटी के लिए तैयार थी। उसे चार किसानों से मिलना था, लेकिन वहाँ पहुँचना कोई आसान काम नहीं था। ऑटो का इंतज़ार अक्सर दो-दो घंटे तक करना पड़ता था। सड़क किनारे बैठे हुए उसने उस समय को भी व्यर्थ नहीं जाने दिया और "ओम नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय" का जाप करती रही। ऑटो मिलने पर वह 12 किलोमीटर दूर अपने कार्यक्षेत्र पहुँची।

राधिका ने किसानों को रेशम विभाग की योजना इतनी बारीकी से समझाई कि उनके मन का डर खत्म हो गया। उसने बताया कि ज़मीन उनकी ही रहेगी, बस उन्हें 5 साल के लिए रेशम खेती का पंजीकरण कराना होगा। बदले में विभाग उन्हें मुफ्त पौधे, खाद, पाइप, मोटर और यहाँ तक कि फसल रखने के लिए 20x40 का एक बड़ा शेड (हॉल) भी बनाकर देगा। साथ ही 100 दिन का काम और फसल की पूरी कीमत भी मिलेगी। राधिका की बातों का ऐसा असर हुआ कि 4 नामों की फाइल देखते ही देखते 25 तक पहुँच गई। अब असली चुनौती थी—इन सभी के खसरा, नक्शा और बायोडाटा इकट्ठा करना, जिसमें कई दिनों की भागदौड़ छिपी थी।

निष्कर्ष: राधिका ने खाली पेट और प्यासे रहकर भी किसानों के जीवन में उम्मीद की किरण जगाई। उसकी निष्ठा ही थी कि किसान उस पर भरोसा करने लगे थे।
