The Kosa eggs had already arrived at the headquarters on Friday. Radhika had received the call from her senior officer the night before and had assured him that everything would be ready. The technique for forest cultivation was vastly different from the indoor methods she knew. Indoors, eggs were often stuck to paper and wrapped in black cloth, tiny like mustard seeds. But these forest eggs were different—larger, like pearls of sago (sabudana). They were carried in specialized perforated plastic baskets (dolchi) designed for ventilation.

Inside these baskets, small pouches made of thin, raw cotton cloth were placed, reminiscent of the traditional waist-pouches used by elders in the past. Each pouch was meticulously labeled with a date, indicating exactly when the larvae would hatch. This date was crucial, as it determined when they would be transplanted onto the trees. Radhika had lined the baskets with paper and secured the lids, ensuring the eggs remained safe yet breathable. Now, standing amidst the towering trees of the forest, she waited for her officer to arrive. The weight of the tiny lives she was about to nurture felt as significant as the prayers she held in her heart.

इन्हें लाने के लिए जालीदार प्लास्टिक की डोलचियों का उपयोग किया गया था ताकि हवा का आवागमन बना रहे। डोलची के भीतर पतले सूती कपड़े की छोटी-छोटी थैलियाँ रखी गई थीं, जो पुराने ज़माने के लोगों द्वारा कमर में लटकाए जाने वाले थैलों की याद दिलाती थीं। हर थैली पर एक तारीख लिखी हुई थी, जो यह बताती थी कि किस थैली से कीड़े किस दिन बाहर निकलेंगे। यह तारीख ही तय करती थी कि उन्हें पेड़ों पर कब और कैसे चढ़ाना (transplant) है। राधिका ने डोलचियों में कागज़ बिछाकर थैलियों को सुरक्षित कर दिया था। अब वह जंगल पहुँच चुकी थी और साहब के आने का इंतज़ार कर रही थी। उसे पता था कि इन नन्हे अंडों की ज़िम्मेदारी उतनी ही बड़ी है जितनी कि उसकी अपनी कठिन साधना।

निष्कर्ष: व्यावसायिक ज़िम्मेदारी और व्यक्तिगत तपस्या अब एक ही मोड़ पर आकर मिल गई थी। राधिका के लिए कोसा के उन अंडों की सुरक्षा और अपने बच्चों के लिए की गई प्रार्थना, दोनों का उद्देश्य एक ही था—जीवन की रक्षा।
