तेरी याद में तड़प-तड़प कर जो मिलते हैं,

मेरे आँसू इन्हें रोक पाना मेरे बस में नहीं।

मेरी हसरतें, मेरे अरमान अब मुझ पर ही हावी होने लगे हैं,

इन्हें संभाल पाना मेरे बस में नहीं।

(The tears that I get while pining in your memory, stopping them is not in my control. My desires and longings are now overpowering me, and managing them is no longer in my hands.)

दिल की बेचैनी बढ़ती ही जा रही है, भावनाएँ मेरी और मेरी तमन्नाएँ अब,

धड़कनें भी मेरे विपरीत जा रही हैं।

दिल-दिमाग को तो संभाल लूँ पर इन सभी पर काबू पाना अब मेरे बस में नहीं।

(The restlessness of the heart is increasing, my feelings and my wishes, even my heartbeats are going against me. I might control my heart and mind, but having power over all of these is no longer in my control.)

दूर निगाहों से हूँ तेरी, दिल से दूर नहीं,

दूर तुझसे हूँ तेरी यादों से नहीं।

मंजिल तेरे कदम चूमे, हर आरज़ू पूरी हो जाए,

मांगी है दुआ खुदा से सिर्फ तेरे लिए, मेरे लिए नहीं।

(I am far from your sight, but not from your heart; I am far from you, but not from your memories. May your destination kiss your feet and every wish be fulfilled; I have prayed to God only for you, not for myself.)

सदा ना बुलबुल नगमे गाए, सदा ना फसले बहार आए,

सदा ना हुस्न जवानी रहती, सदा ना सोहबत यार।

न जाने किस दामन के लिए कौन सा गुल चुनता है,

कहते हैं सच्चे दिल की दुआएँ जल्द खुदा सुनता है।

(The nightingale doesn't sing forever, nor does the spring season stay; beauty and youth don't last forever, nor does the company of friends. Who knows which flower is picked for which lap, but they say God hears the prayers of a true heart quickly.)

फूल-फूल से बनी तुम्हारी तस्वीर, फूल-फूल से लिखा है तेरा नाम,

मेरी शायरी पढ़ने वाले, तुमको मेरा सलाम।
