कहानी का सार: "गूँज से पहले की खामोशी"

कहानी एक ऐसे माली के बारे में है जो सालों तक एक खाली जमीन को पानी देता है। जब उससे पूछा गया कि यहाँ तो कुछ उग ही नहीं रहा, तो उसने कहा कि यह बम्बू (Bamboo) का पौधा है। यह 5 साल तक जमीन के अंदर अपनी जड़ें मजबूत करता है और बाहर कुछ नहीं दिखता। लेकिन जैसे ही जड़ें मजबूत होती हैं, यह कुछ ही हफ्तों में 80 फीट ऊँचा बढ़ जाता है।

​एक मुसाफिर था जो रेगिस्तान में कुआँ खोद रहा था। उसने एक जगह दस फुट खोदा, पानी नहीं मिला। फिर दूसरी जगह, फिर तीसरी जगह। ऐसे करते-करते उसने सैकड़ों गड्ढे खोद दिए। वह थक कर बैठ गया और सोचने लगा कि शायद इस जमीन में पानी है ही नहीं।

​तभी एक बुजुर्ग वहाँ से गुजरे और बोले, "बेटा, तुम्हारी मेहनत में कमी नहीं है। तुमने जितनी मिट्टी निकाली है, अगर वो सब एक ही जगह से निकाली होती, तो आज तुम प्यासे न होते। पानी बस दो हाथ और नीचे था।"
